This is a great site to view various wars and their effect on the environment: Lenntech Website

The USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) that provides "impartial information on the health of our ecosystems and environment..."  It has a lot to offer, but nevertheless it is biased (as the majority of things in life are).  Take it with a grain of salt, but know it is still a great resource.

Here are two websites that I found that overview various hazards throughout the world and its history.  My favorite is the one from Action On Risk that give the "Top 10 Major Accidents that Influenced the World."
